As used in this article, a slaughterhouse shall mean any establishment in which livestock or fowl are slaughtered, dressed, packed, canned or otherwise processed for human consumption.

It shall be unlawful for any person to erect, operate or maintain any slaughterhouse within the corporate limits of the city without first making a written application for, and procuring from the governing body of the city, a permit to do so. No permits shall be issued until the governing body has approved the location, and sanitation, of the proposed establishment. Such permit when issued, may be revoked by the governing body for failure of the holder thereof to comply with any and all of the terms and conditions of the ordinances of the city, or the rules, laws and regulations of the State of Kansas, and of the Kansas State Board of Health, which pertain to such plants and establishments. A fee of $250.00 shall be paid for each permit issued. Each permit shall expire on the last day of December in the year issued.

Each and every slaughterhouse, as defined herein, shall be open to inspection by the city health officer, the county health department and the Kansas State Board of Health.
