CHAPTER IV. BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTIONCHAPTER IV. BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION\ARTICLE 7. NUMBERING BUILDINGS

All business houses, dwelling houses and other places which are inhabited or used for the carrying on of any business of occupation within the city shall be numbered in plain figures, on the front thereof, in such size as to be easily read from the street line of the lot on which the building may be situated.

(Code 1975, 6-901)

Such numbers shall be determined and made as follows: Buildings upon streets and avenues running east and west shall be numbered each way from Main Street, commencing so as to have the odd numbers on the south side of the streets and avenues, and adding 1200 thereto and allowing 100 for each block; and on number for each 25 feet front. Buildings upon streets and avenues running north and south shall be numbered each way from First Street, commencing so as to have all of the odd numbers on the west side of the streets or avenues, allowing one number for each 25 feet, and 100 for each block on the street running north and south.

(Code 1975, 6-902)

The city shall furnish the numbers to be used on existing buildings. When a question arises as to the correct number to be used on a specific building, the number shall be determined and assigned to the building by the city clerk. New buildings shall be numbered within 30 days from their occupancy. The numbers for all buildings hereinafter constructed shall be furnished by the owner. If any owner shall fail to comply with the provisions of this article, the city clerk shall cause such building to be numbered and charge the expense thereof to each piece of property, and it shall be collected in the same manner as repairs on sidewalks.
